Friends Announce Spring Fundraiser
The
Mineral Wells Friends of the National Vietnam War Museum announced today
that they will hold their second annual Spring fundraiser on Saturday,
April 12, 2003, to benefit the museum that will be built on a twelve
acre site a few miles east of Mineral Wells on Texas State Highway 180.
The theme for this years event is Focus on the Future.
The
event will be a dance featuring the Tarleton University Ultra Club Big
Band, to be held at the historic Baker Hotel in downtown Mineral Wells
from 7:00 until 11:00 p.m. A live auction and a professional fortune
teller will add special excitement to the event, and tours of the hotel
will be offered until dark. Doc Chase, from KJSA Radio, will emcee the
event. The museum gift shop will offer various items for sale. Hors
douvres will be provided, along with a cash bar.
Jim
Messinger, president of the Friends organization, said, This is
going to be a fun evening. We are expecting an even larger crowd than
the 200 we had last year, due to the increased interest in the museum
project and the publics desire to see inside the Baker Hotel.
Tickets
are $25, if purchased before the dance, and $30 at the door. They can
be purchased from the Chambers of Commerce in Weatherford and Mineral
Wells, or by sending a check, or credit card information (type of card,
name on the card, card number and expiration date), to P.O. Box 146,
Mineral Wells, TX. Tickets will be available for pick up at the door.
This
year, individuals and organizations will be offered the opportunity
to support the museum by becoming sponsors of the dance at one of four
different levels. A Green Level Sponsor receives two tickets for a contribution
of $100, a Silver Level Sponsor receives four tickets for a contribution
of $250, a Gold Level Sponsor receives eight tickets for a contribution
of $500 and a Platinum Level Sponsor receives sixteen tickets for a
contribution of $1000. In addition, each sponsor will receive special
recognition during the event.
The
National Vietnam War Museum is a Texas 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
The museum will be located on a 12 acre site on Hwy 180, just east of
Mineral Wells. The focus of the museum will be to address the full scope
of the Vietnam War - the participants, the root causes, the after effects
- in an honest, and unbiased manner. The plans call for a world-class
facility that will create an atmosphere of learning to engage people
of all ages, nationalities, and political points of view.
The
museum will seek to create for each visitor a full understanding of
this era in history. It will provide its visitors with the unique opportunity
to clear up possible misconceptions about the Vietnam War and those
affected by it. The exhibits will provide different viewpoints, encourage
visitors to raise questions, and provide them with the information necessary
to form their own opinions and, perhaps, challenge longstanding misunderstandings.
